Minibeast Mania!!
In class 3 we have been doing a lot of work about Minibeasts and Habitats this half term. This has been taught mostly by Miss. Ward. It is her last day today, and to celebrate all our hard work, we were able to come to school dressed as a minibeast! A lot of work was put into our costumes (thank you parents!) and we all looked really great. We were able to show class 1 our costumes in more detail and tell them about the things which we had learned.
Thank you Miss. Ward for all your great Minibeast lessons!

Healthy Me
Our current Learning Connections topic in Class 3 is called 'Healthy Me'. We are learning all about what is inside our body and how it functions to keep us healthy. We have learned lots of yucky facts too. Did you know that if you laid all of the blood vessels in the human body from end to end, they would go twice around the earth! Yuk!

Team Building Week: C4 Today
The aim of last week's work in Class 4 was to work together - the children decided that they needed a project that all would work on. They came up with the idea of putting together a magazine. You can download and read the finished magazine here.

Kids In control!
In learning Connections we normally have a topic to work that Mr Marshall decides. This week it was different - the kids were in control! We Thought of having a week topic that we have never done before and we decided that we will do team building! On monday we planned out the whole week to do with team building.
Throughout the week mostly what ever we are doing we will always be working together helping each other and discussing ideas with everyone. On monday we did a session where we had to solve a promblem with carpet mats. But it did not work straight away because we where not good as a team everyone was shouting at each other some people did not know what they where doing. On wednesday we went outside with a compass But hardly any one knew how too work a compass. But then mr marshall was explaining to us how to use it. When we knew how to work it , On thursday we got into our teams and drew a route on a piece of paper of the school grounds. Then we went outside and went round the route and marked out the compass markings for where the next point was. Once we had done we wrote the markings in our books make sure everyone knew what they where doing. Then we got ready to give it to class 3 and let them work it out!
We've also been working on a class magazine. We divided into groups and decided what we wanted to have in it. We've got sections on: Entertainment, Sport, School News, News, Games and an editorial section.
But Through out the week our teams have been improving on there team work skills and on friday everyone liked the idea of having a team. It's been a cool week! KIDS IN CONTROL!!!!

Rememberance
Remembrance
It is the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
The guns have long stopped. Silence still haunts the battle fields.
An old man stands silently, wearing his war medals with pride.
He remembers……
Young men stumble. Falling. Life is over for them.
The bombs are a disease that’s spreads sadness, killing on its way.
Only the soldiers keep there silence, some of them cowering on the floor
Dead.
Things are different now, things have changed
Memories lurk around his head,
He has fought them time and time again.
But the most important war he won.

Thank you to Amy Morely who brought this brass tin in (it was her great, great grandads). These tins were given to the soldiers with either chocolate or tobacco in as a gift from the King and Queen.

Guerre
War is over
Both sides wonder
What just happened.
Much time later
Old men gather
Wearing medals
They remember,
The bullets, bombs
shells ,gas and cries.
One long battle
Sealed in his head:
In his scared mind
Soldiers like bucks:
Charging, ready,
running, roaming.
Fellow comrades
Mown down like grass.
Only one left.
Few are alive
Others have died.
They have met doom.
One strange nightfall
It stopped. Rest.
They woke to peace
It's all over.
Soldiers go home
To their families
At the Cenotaph
They lay a wreath.
They remember.
Thank you Ellie for bringing in the medals - these were sent in the post to Ellie's great, great grandad. The envelope is still with the medals and is actually worth more than both medals put together.

Remembrance day
He remembers.......
Thinking of his comrades on the 11th of November
Sad thoughts.
Respect. The people who made us proud
Around the cenataph
He remembers........
The first poppies blowing in the wind
Between the graves
The black of the poppy is a pupil watching him
colours.Red,green and black
He remembers......
War.A fire storm of death
Fighting. For his country
Reletives waiting for him to come home
We won....

DT - Structures
OUR design process: DESIGN - BUILD - TEST - EVALUATE.
Through out Learning Connections work we've been looking at structures, how they are made, how they are designed to suit a purpose and how to test and evaluate what we make.
We started off with a simple design brief to design, construct and test a bridge in 60 minutes. Almost everyone did it, we quickly found out that our structures weren't the best. Some were able to carry the water, others simply weren't up to the job. We then spent ages evaluating our designs, and the process we used.
We decided that we needed to know how to measure properly, including calculating complex angles on our 3D structures. We thought more about our designs, we researched and tested different ways of connecting the art straws together. We also took our time and more care.
Our finished results are a lot more aesthetically pleasing and they all work! We really enjoyed this project. It was cool.

Italy!

In Blakedown school we were learning about Italy . On Wednesday 19th September 2007 my Aunty Sarah who is married to my Uncle Antonio, came into my school to talk to class 4 about Italy. My Dads side of the family are from Colle Sanita near Naples in Italy, my Dad was born there and he came to England when he was 4 years old his name is Giuseppe. My Aunty Sarah goes to Italy a lot and she brought in food, books, pictures, coffee cups, flags, examples of Italian language and loads more stuff to show us all. I showed everyone photo's of when I went to Rome in April and saw the Pope on Easter Sunday. Aunty Sarah told the class lots of information about Italy and class 4 knew a lot about Italy too and asked lots of questions. We practiced counting in Italian too. My Aunty Sarah was magnifico and the afternoon learning about Italy was Bellissimo ( wonderful ). I would like to say, 'Grazie molto per venire alla mia scuola parlare dell'Italia che era fantastica ed in modo da che era voi.
Ciao
L.S.

Learning Connections
This year we have a new subject it has all lessonsin so we dont have loads and loads of books instead we have one big book that we use for georaghy, art, history, DT and some literacy. At the moment we are are doing structures and we have to build a eco house and the other we had to make a bridge with art straws in 1 hour we are also learning how to write a news paper report and take notes. We have also done about Europe, Italy and what countries are in the European Union (EU).The eco house and the briges would class as DT but the news paper reports would class as literacy. Cool.

Learning connections
In key stage two we have been doing things differently since the start of term. We've been doing a thing called Learning Connections ,its where we've mixed all the subjects into one (except maths) and put them into one big topic so far we've done Europe,Italy, and now were learning about structures :). Everyone thinks this a great idea and are really enjoying it.
