LFLA: Green Fingers - We found a hedgehog!

In LFLA/Green Fingers we were picking up the leaves to put in the compost for winter we found a hedgehog. So we told Mrs Tromans to get the camera. So she got the camera and she held the hedgehog while Miss Renaldes took a picture.

Better Reading

Last night, 23rd October, Mrs Marks and Mrs Lawrence collected their Better Reading Accreditation Award. This was held in the Council Chambers at County hall Worcester. Lizzie James and Jack Young benefited from this reading programme and read to the audience. We are very proud of them. Better reading helps good readers get even better. This has been made possible due to the hard work and dedication of Mrs Lawrence and Mrs Marks. A good evening was had by all.

We have been very busy in the library during the latest LFLA sessions. We have just about catalogued all the books and sorted out all the different sections. As it is the National Year of Reading this year we are hoping to put up a few posters and displays of some of the interesting books we now have in the libary.

We have our own blog now where you can review a book you have enjoyed or even tell us about your favourite book. Just click on the Book Review link.

LFLA: In Sync!

Here's one of our LFLA group's videos. They've done some more, to view the rest visit our LFLA blog. The resolution isn't great - we didn't get the compression ratio right.

musical instruments

As part of our work on sound and hearing we made some instruments. We played our instruments to each other.

We did some problem solving. We had to guess how many children it would take to hug the school. We solved the problem by 20 of us holding hands them moving round the outside of the school. Dillon recorded how many times we had to move. We moved 10 times. Dillon added the 20s up and we found that we needed 200 children to hug the school! We really enjoyed ouseleves. Morgan organised all the children and Mrs Bevan took the photographs!

An interview with John Glenn

John Glenn was born in 1921 and is still alive at the age of 87. John circled the Earth on the Mercury 6 space mission, becoming the first American to do so.The launch was on Friday 20th February 1962 from Cape Canaveral.

John was a fighter pilot in both World War II and the Korean war. He got interested in flying by watching flying shows. Next he became one of Americas original 7 Mercury Astronauts.

He quoted, " I was gutted about losing the space race to Yuri Gagarin," he also told us he was in space for a total of 4 hours and 58 minutes. John claimed that the Americans lost the space race because the were investing in different things.

He then became a politician and in 1974 a democratic senator. He is still in politics. John quoted, "I was with John. F . Kennedy when he was assasinated," he retired a year after.

John Glenn was a very famous man. He was the first man to circle the Earth.

Year 4 Invasion Festival

Year 4 went to St. Wulstans Primary School in Stourport today for an invasion festival. Here they were split into groups and rotated around various stations where they had the opportunity to practise their skills and take part in little games.

Well done Year 4!

Happy Birthday!

Learning For Life Academy is now 1 year old! We started our group of sessions off two weeks ago with 8 different groups for the pupils to choose from. We've had great fun so far with lots of different things happening across the school. This year we plan to roll out LFLA across the school, with all ages "doing something different" on a Friday. Harvest Festival

We enjoyed taking part in our first Harvest Festival and for many of us our first visit to church. It was very exciting bringing our produce into school and seeing it displayed in the church. We also made bread to celebrate the Harvest and enjoyed eating it with our friends at break time!!!

Visitors

Last week Class One were very lucky to have two visitors into class to talk to them about their jobs. Mr Gardiner came to talk about the role of a Fire Officer and Mrs Edwards came to talk about hygiene and washing our hands. This was a great way to start our new theme before half term-People Who Help Us. We enjoyed asking and answering questions and would like to say a big "Thank You" for your time.

Teeth and Eating

The children in Class 3 love using their mouths, so it is a good job that our Science topic at the moment is Teeth and Eating!

We have learnt all about why we need to eat certain foods, how our teeth work and how animals have different teeth depending on their diet.

Click on this link to have a go at a Teeth match game!

Walk like an Egyptian!

You may know that Class 3 have been learning all about Ancient Egypt this half term. As well as learning the history, we have learnt how the Ancient Egyptians wrote numbers and we have used the setting for some excellent time travel stories. We have also brought this Learning Connection into our dance lessons in PE. Using Egyptian hieroglyphics and people paintings as inspiration, the children put together performance art to music. Here are some photographs of the rehersing and dancing in action!

sound and hearing

Class 2 have been finding out about sound and hearing. We looked at an ear and named the different parts. We did an experiment where we tried to make a timer to be as quiet as possible when the alarm when off. We worked in groups to sound proof our timers. The quietest was wrapped in tinfoil and newspaper. We found out that the more layers you put around the timer the quieter it was when it went off.

Team Captains

Team Captains

A start of a new school year means new team captains. We have four house teams: Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Siskins and Robins. This year we have decided to have vice team captains as well as team captains; here are the new Team captains:

Woodpeckers: Amy Morley, Megan Mullen-Knight
Kingfishers: Ellie Chatwin, Dharani Yogasivam
Siskins: Ella Brown, Hannah Danks
Robins: Jonathan Bridge, Oliver Swindells.

As a team captain you have to fulfil lots of different jobs like: going in the office supporting you team on sports day and helping give new ideas to the school. We had to apply by writing a letter on why we should be picked if you didn’t get picked as a captain you got another job like sports captain or buddy captain.

All about me!

Class one have settled well into school life and we have enjoyed finding out about the body. Our role play area has been 'Blakedown Doctors Surgery' and we have taken part in lots of activities to support our topic this half term. Here are some of the things we have been doing.
