Blakedown Awarded Eco-Green Flag!
After a lot of effort and hard work from pupils and staff, Blakedown has been awarded it's first Green Flag!
Well done to everyone involved! This is something that we've been working towards for a while and achieving this award has made that hard work worthwhile.
Has anyone got a flag pole that we can use?
Speed Reads
Some of the children in class 4 have been using speed reads to help with their reading. A speed read sheet involves a track with words, readers need to read the words so that they can get from the start to the finish. We have added a little challenge to this by keeping a record of fastest lap times.
At the moment Ollie is doing really well with a lap record of 5 seconds! He even beat
Mrs Chatwin and Mrs Tromans.
Well done all you speed readers keep practicing.

Breakfast with Santa
KS1 Christmas party
We had good fun today. We came dressed in our party clothes. Class2 played a game in their classroom first thing then made some fantastic party hats.
In the afternoon we played games together in the hall. We played pass the oarcel and musical statues. We also played a game where we had to run to different corners of the hall. I wonder if any of the KS 2 children remember playing that game?
We had some yummy food.
We all took home a party bag and a balloon.

Meet and Greet
On Thursday lots of children met at the pub car park and then walked along to school accompanied by a police officer, the community officer, parents and some of the staff. There were some hazzards along the way. The pavement was slippery, the traffic was heavy, and at one point there were cars parked on the pavement, but everyone arrived safely and met the others in the playground.
Then eveyone formed a circle around the edge of the playground before heading off into school. What did you think about the 'walk and greet' idea?
Should we do it again?
Let the Eco Warriors know what you think.

Class 3 Colouring club
Class 3 hold a colouring club: children in years three and four can go to the club and draw, colour and make things out of card.
They have recently made some candles to put around the Christmas tree. Sam G said, "It is great, I love it". The club is organized and supervised by Mrs Tromans on a Monday lunch time 12:30 till 1:00.
So, what are you waiting for? Come and join - it's a lot warmer in the classroom!

Massive Paper Chain!
In class 4 all afternoon (1:40-3:15) we made a massive paper chain which is all over our class room. We did it because Mr Marshall felt a bit Christmassy,
also Dharani a year 5 pupil made a massive oragami christmas tree, which looked really nice with all the neat cuttings. We also made lanterns and snow flakes. I really liked the idea of doing this, it was very relaxing. If Mr Marshall had not thought of this we would have been doing science ( a bad thing). After we finally finished it looked really nice.
Have you got the E factor?
In LFLA me and my friend are leading a group called the E factor .It is called E factor because our names are the same which Is Eleanor. It lasts for 4 weeks. We have two groups one for half of the morning then one for the next half of the morning. What we do, we teach people our dance routine and at the end the will show the routine in assembly. So far it is going really well we have teached them half of the dance and we are going to teach them the rest of the dance. See what we've been up to at our other blog - click here.

How to leave a good comment
I found this post from another school's blog. It's some really good advice on how to leave a comment - just like we spoke about in class. Remember QUALITY not quantity!
How to write GOOD comments
When people take the time to write a post, it’s fantastic if you can find the time to write a comment to let them know what you thought.
When you write comments, try to keep these things in mind:
1. Be positive! Remember to tell the poster the things you liked about the post.
2. If you have any criticism, then write it down, but be positive. Use the ‘even better if’ style of feedback.
3. Just saying ‘cool’ or gr8 might make the poster feel good, but even better would be saying why it’s cool. Comments can be read by anyone from all over the world - teachers, parents, governors, politicians, celebrities (!), so use your best writing skills and try to be as accurate as possible with spellings - take pride in your comments!
4. If you want to tell the poster about one of your posts, then give them the full web address to help them find it - if you’re really advanced, then include a link.
5. Perhaps try one of these comment starters…
I can relate to this…
This makes me think of…
I discovered…
I don’t understand…
I was reminded that…
I found myself wondering…
Pupil Talents: Eleanor @ the NIA
The dance was coreographed by Liz Squires our dance teacher and some of the students. On the other hand the poem was written by Michael O'Hara.
This is the poem:
Shen Te was an only child
Shen Te was a lony child
Her only friends were the dragons she drew
green ones red ones gold ones friendly ones fiery ones
Dragons of every temperament and hue
( Whisper)
green ones red ones gold ones freindly ones
green ones red ones gold ones friendly ones
fiery ones
"How beautiful your dragons are" her teacher said one day
and put them on the wall for all to veiw
there they hung in pride of place admired by all who saw them
All except the envious Shui Ta who was determined to destroy them
When at last his chance it came he ripped the dragons from their frames
till till tiny peices were all that remained
Then from the pile of tiny peices
rings of smoke began to rise and there before Shui Ta's astonished eyes the dragon ros and began to circle.
When we said it there was music from Moulin Rouge so we could go straightin to our dance.
When we performed we had a MASIVE dragon walking round us.

The Enormous Crocodile
The Eco Warriors!
Our school's eco committee is trying to get the green flag! On the last week of this term we are having a inspection. Someone is going to judge whether our school is going to get the award or not. We have been trying really hard to get the green flag by, composting, saving water and picking up litter. Our school has recently entered a competition to make the best eco tree with recycled materials like newspaper and milk bottles. We all hope that we are going to get are greenflag we have been working very hard towards it.
Gladiators! "Awooga!"

Team Building Week: C4 Today
The aim of last week's work in Class 4 was to work together - the children decided that they needed a project that all would work on. They came up with the idea of putting together a magazine. You can download and read the finished magazine here.
